The Introduction

Greetings and welcome to the first post of Mochi Muse!~~

What's it about?

This is no ordinary music review blog.  Mochi Muse will be a blog that introduces music, not from North America, but the Far East.  With the explosion that is Psy's Gangnam Style, we can see that music has become much more multicultural with the help of the internet.  A song produced half-way around the world, in South Korea, can be popular in North America as well.

However, most people still generally listen to North American artists.  Some may even venture into European music, as evident in the resurging wave of British music.  Generally speaking though, people tend to stick to musical acts from their own continent.

But, in this generation with the internet, the world has become a much smaller place.  Each and every day we are bombarded with news from all over the globe.  So, why can’t it be the same for music?

Well, when it comes to music there are a few problems, one of these being the language barrier.  As a younger generation though, shouldn’t we be more open-minded?  We should give music from other cultures a chance.  Music is not just lyrics and words.  It is also about melodies and emotions, which is a universal thing.  So, just because a song is in another language is definitely not a sufficient excuse.  The other problem is that it is difficult to find this music unless you know what to search for.

That is where Mochi Muse comes in.  My wish for this blog is to expose people to the eclectic variety of music that Asia has to offer.  There is more to music than the top 40 pop tunes we are assaulted with on a daily basis.  Asia has a very intriguing music industry.  So, I hope you’ll keep an open mind and try listening to some of these songs.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, technology is a really fascinating thing. For music from Asia especially, it's hard to obtain. If you're lucky it could be on iTunes or in China Town, other than that it's really hard to get. But with more people learning about it, it's get a wider audience and the music is beginning to become more accessible. Anyway, I'm glad you find it interesting!

  2. Your blog seems like it's going to be very interesting! Everything you've said in this introduction is completely true. I love British music and even some French music but I really know nothing about Asian music, so this will be an eye opener for me and I'm excited because I love finding new music.

I love what you said about music being emotions and melodies, which are universal things - I completely agree.

Also, I like the new background, it suits your blog better than the old one and looks really cool :)

oh yeah and just curious - what does Mochi mean?

    1. Thanks, I'm glad you're interested in Asian music! Not many people know about it. So, Mochi is actually a rice cake. It's very popular in Asia. It's a sweet dessert made of very sticky, glutinous rice. So, I thought it would make sense to have Mochi in the title. Not many people know about it and it has an association with Asia.

    2. I always find it crazy how different music is around the world. Now with the internet, like you said, we are getting exposed to more forms of music. However, just because of the way our culture is you would think our music is popular all over the world. It is really odd when somebody comes here and a really famous song comes on and they have no idea what it is. Your like YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF JAY-Z? Looking forward to getting exposed to a new type of music.

  3. I had to look up mochi, too, when I first read your blog. But it fits! And nice fixes on the background haha, looks a lot more polished. How did you get the background stagnant instead of scrolling? I'd love to use that for mine!
The introduction was nice just because it sums up your blog well. As has been said, looking forward to different music!

    1. Thanks! For the background picture to stay still, just go to the customize page from the template section and then go to background. Then uncheck the box for scroll with page.
